Course Overview:
The SIA-approved First Aid at Work (FAW) course is designed to provide participants with comprehensive first aid skills and knowledge. This course meets the standards set by the Security Industry Authority (SIA) and ensures that candidates are prepared to handle a wide range of emergency situations effectively. The training covers both theoretical and practical aspects of first aid, making it suitable for various workplace environments.
Course Objectives:
- Understand the roles and responsibilities of a first aider.
- Learn how to assess an incident and manage an emergency situation.

Course Content:
Introduction to First Aid in the Workplace:
- The role of the first aider
- Legal responsibilities and considerations
- Importance of preventing cross-infection
- Recording incidents and actions
Assessing an Incident:
- Conducting a scene survey
- Performing a primary survey (DRABC – Danger, Response, Airway, Breathing, Circulation)
- Assessing the casualty and prioritizing treatment
Unresponsive Casualty:
- Managing an unresponsive casualty who is breathing
- Recovery position and monitoring
- Managing an unresponsive casualty who is not breathing
- Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
Choking:
- Identifying partial and complete airway obstruction
- Providing appropriate first aid for a choking casualty
Wounds and Bleeding:
- Types of wounds and bleeding
- Controlling severe external bleeding
- Treatment for minor cuts, grazes, and bruises
Managing Shock:
- Recognizing the signs and symptoms of shock
- Providing first aid treatment for shock
Minor Injuries:
- First aid for minor burns and scalds
- Treatment for small splinters
- Managing other minor injuries
Fractures, Sprains, and Strains:
- Identifying and providing first aid for fractures
- Managing sprains and strains
- Immobilization techniques
Head Injuries:
- Recognizing and treating head injuries
- Understanding the implications of concussions
Chest Injuries:
- Recognizing and providing first aid for chest injuries
- Treatment for suspected heart attacks
Major Illnesses:
- Recognizing and managing asthma attacks
- Understanding and providing first aid for diabetic emergencies
- Identifying and responding to strokes and seizures
Poisoning and Anaphylaxis:
- Recognizing signs of poisoning
- Providing first aid for various types of poisoning
- Managing severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis)
Course Duration:
- The course typically spans over 3 days, including both theoretical and practical training sessions.
Assessment and Certification:
- Candidates will be assessed through practical demonstrations and a multiple-choice exam.
- Upon successful completion, participants will receive a First Aid at Work certificate, which is valid for three years.
